The dramatic label found on our Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin depicts the story of Saint Dunstan & The Devil, an epic event which, as the story goes, happened in Mayfield Village, East Sussex.

Saint Dustan, as the story goes, once pull'd the Devil by the nose. With red-hot tongs which made him roar. That he was heard, three miles or more.

The story is accompanied by a short poem describing Saint Dunstan's encounter, with the original tongs still on display in his old home, now Mayfield Girls School.

Saint Dunstan has been known to have a couple of encounters with the Devil, with a number of stories based in Mayfield and the surrounding areas of East Sussex.

Reminders of Saint Dunstan and The Devil story can be found all throughout the award winning town of Mayfield, with it's historic buildings and picturesque countrysides.

Sussex is also not only known for its folklore tales and history but its rich history in hop farming and beer production which is why Sussex Hop was used as a botanical in this delectable gin. The hop provides a floral, citrus character and opens up a door to craft beer & gin mixology.
