Diabolically Delectable Gin Born in Mayfield

From the home of the good Saint Dunstan

A new craft gin has been released into the UK market

Launching in July 2017 and created by Master Maker & Blender J. Arthur Rackham, founder of artisanal spirits company Emporia Brands, liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Distillers and resident of Mayfield Village, East Sussex.

The dramatic label depicts the story of St. Dunstan and The Devil, an epic event which, as the story goes, happened in the 10th century in Mayfield. Mayfield Village is rich with folklore tales and history, every Mayfield Distilling Company product reveals a piece of that story.

Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin is a recipe of 8 botanicals, Juniper Berries of course, followed by our signature botanical, Sussex Hop - a wild hop that was found growing in local Sussex hedgerows, it provides a wonderful citrus and hop character to this fabulous craft gin. The remaining botanicals used are lemon peel, orange peel, coriander seeds, Angelica, orris and liquorice. Starting with neutral sugar beet alcohol with each botanical individually and slowly macerated, followed by a single botanical distillation in a 150-year-old copper pot still to obtain a super-smooth distillate at 40% abv. Only using the ‘heart’ of the distillate to ensure the liquid is soft and smooth, finally making a slow reduction using pure water to not shock the spirit.

“I wanted to make a hop gin since I was that this part of the country has been at the centre of the hop industry. Just look around and you’ll see how many Oast houses there are here, what I can say, is our local Sussex Hop is what makes this gin truly unique” - Master Maker & Blender J.Arthur Rackham.

Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin is now available in the UK from award-winning Spirits Importer and Distributor Emporia Brands Ltd. and can be found in over 150 local Sussex pubs and retail outlets.
